Jane Brinson

Head of Referrals and Integrative Child Psychotherapist

Building a trusting therapeutic relationship with you is central to my work. From a position of curiosity and empathy, we will build on your existing strengths while exploring the areas of life where you feel you are struggling. I am deeply interested in all aspects of your experience. This includes those parts that may feel painful, confusing or difficult to talk about as well as the confident and joyful parts. My integrative training allows me to adapt my approach to suit your unique needs, and we will work collaboratively to understand how your thoughts, feelings and behaviours impact upon your life.

I work with children, adolescents and young adults with a wide range of presenting issues. In particular, I can offer support during times of significant life transitions, such changes within a family due to separation or divorce, moving schools, or making the transition to university or the workplace. These moments can be unsettling but they can also be rich opportunities for growth.

I also work with neurodivergent clients (including ADHD and ASD) to help them better understand themselves and develop ways of thriving in a neurotypical world. My approach is pragmatic and compassionate, supporting individuals to feel more at ease in themselves and their relationships, and better equipped to manage the demands of daily life.

Much of my work is with young adults, often a formative and complex stage of life. I support clients as they forge their path in the world, exploring their identity, navigating changing relationships with family, peers and partners, and thinking about the direction and purpose of their lives. Therapy can offer a grounding space to process and reflect during this important stage of life.

I also offer support to parents who are seeking to deepen their understanding of  - and relationship with – their children.

Alongside my private practice, I have extensive experience working therapeutically in both the education and voluntary sectors. I began my career as a teacher, specialising in supporting children with social, emotional, and learning difficulties, before training as a psychotherapist. Over the years, I have worked with young people struggling to engage with formal education – in individual therapy, with their families, and in group settings. I have also worked in specialist services offering therapeutic support to families post-adoption and to children who have experienced early-life trauma.

As the Head of Referrals at the Blue Door, I manage new referrals, helping them find a therapist who is a good fit for them. I also support the operational running and ongoing development of the practice.
