Dr Ruth Millman

Counselling Psychologist and Existential Psychotherapist

I am a counselling psychologist and existential psychotherapist and lead the Neurodiversity Service at the Blue Door.

Developing a collaborative relationship is at the centre of my approach, alongside fostering a space of acceptance and curiosity in which clients can explore their relationship to themselves, others and the world. People experience, learn and connect to the world in different ways, and I draw on a range of approaches (including existential, CBT, EFT, mindfulness, Relational Life Therapy) to help clients flourish. I specialise in working with neurodivergent adults and believe that offering a neuro-affirming approach is foundational to any therapy. This includes varying the duration, pace and mode of the intervention to suit my clients needs. We are also able to offer bespoke support packages including psychotherapy, coaching and group work to provide holistic and neuro-affirming therapeutic interventions.

I also focus on supporting those from the LGBTQIA+ community, offering a safe and affirming space to explore identity, relationships, and mental health. My work focuses on helping clients navigate challenges while honouring their unique experiences and strengths.

I began my career managing specialist services for autistic adults, before moving to work for the NHS in primary and secondary mental health care. I have worked for over 20 years with neurodivergent individuals, couples and families. This has included setting up innovative post-diagnostic services and women’s and LGBTQIA+ groups. In addition to my clinical work, I run neurodivergent training packages for families and professionals, as well as teaching on post-graduate university programmes.
