Alika Goodwin
Counselling Psychologist
I am a highly qualified counselling psychologist who is warm, curious and passionate about providing a safe therapeutic space for all my clients. I use a combination of evidence based psychological therapies to meet clients where they are on their journey and I adapt my approach to the evolving needs of each individual and couple. I have specialist training in Schema therapy, Dynamic Interpersonal therapy and I am an accredited Mentalization Based Practitioner.
I work relationally, using the therapy relationship to create a safe secure base for clients to explore and understand areas of struggle, pain and trauma. My collaborative approach helps clients explore areas of growth and resiliency and enables them to reach their potential. I am an active and responsive therapist, not holding back from bringing in alternative viewpoints with a gentle nudge or empathic confrontation when needed to move towards achieving a clients’ goals. I bring creativity into the therapy room as I am passionate about reconnecting with the playful and curious sides we all have when we are feeling safe and valued.
I have a deep interest and extensive experience supporting neurodiverse clients, including those diagnosed later in life or exploring their possible neurodivergence. I provide a compassionate, strengths-focused space to navigate challenges, enhance self-understanding, and address the unique dynamics of being neurodiverse in a world often designed for neurotypical norms.
I have extensive experience working with couples who have come to seek support at a preventative stage or at points of crisis or transition. Schema therapy forms the foundation of much of this work. It is a type of therapy that focuses on identifying and reshaping deeply ingrained patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving that impacts our relationships and particularly our self-esteem. I use this to help partners break unhelpful relational cycles and reconnect in meaningful ways. This approach is particularly effective in helping individuals and couples repair trust, improve communication and build healthier, more fulfilling relationships.
I have worked with individuals and groups in the NHS for many years. I have taught and trained both students and professionals in a variety of contexts to reduce stigma and improve client experiences of treatment. I enjoy working alongside other professionals both within the Blue Door team and externally to bring about the most helpful, meaningful and lasting change to my clients.
